Bullying
Hate Crimes can happen at any age and in any place, even in school.
Bullies might pick on someone because of their race, faith, gender, sexuality or because they have a disability. If this is happening to you or someone you know there are things that can be done to make it stop.
Is there someone you can talk to about it, a teacher, a peer mentor or a friend? Teachers take bulling seriously and will try to resolve the situation. If you are worried about the bulling getting worse or you haven't got anyone to talk to about it you can speak to a trained Open Out worker in confidence by calling:
01223 823552 between 9am and 5pm if you live in Cambridge City, South Cambs, East Cambs, Huntingdonshire or Fenland. (if the line is busy or you're calling outside this time please leave a message and someone will call you back).
If you live in Peterborough call 01733 558677 between 9am and 5pm.
Bullying can include:
- People calling you names
- Making things up to get you into trouble
- Hitting, pinching, biting, pushing and shoving
- Taking things away from you
- Damaging your belongings
- Stealing your money
- Taking your friends away from you
- Posting insulting messages on the internet or by IM (cyberbullying)
- Spreading rumours
- Threats and intimidation
- Making silent or abusive phone calls
- Sending you offensive phone texts
- Bullies can also frighten you so that you don't want to go to school, so that you pretend to be ill to avoid them
